Biotopes serve as comfortable habitats for the coexistence of multiple organisms in nature. Similarly, cells within living tissues actively establish a more comfortable environment for themselves, we termed it as a “celltope”. Disruption of this environment can lead to disease; however, by manipulating disease-specific celltopes, therapeutic strategies to reverse or halt disease progression can be feasible. We have been working on developing a comprehensive and deep analytical approach to understand tissue celltopes, especially focusing on cell-cell interactions (Nat Commun 2023; 14: 8031). This opto-intereactmics technique is achieved by unique synthetic biomolecules for integrating optical cell labeling technologies with single cell omics. We are striving further refinement of interpretation strategies of tissue celltopes. We’re also developing unique technologies to manipulate celltopes for disease-specific therapeutic strategies.
