About us

Research – Challenging the Mysteries of Life

We are researching various phenomena related to human cardiovascular and genetic diseases. Our research focuses not only on the pathophysiology of heart failure and atherosclerosis but also on disease susceptibility genes for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and causative genes for pediatric congenital diseases. Because it is often difficult to elucidate the mysteries of human diseases only by genetic analysis, we will do whatever is necessary, from genome and cell experiments to animal experiments and human biopsy sample analysis.

Patient Care – Supporting the Community

In collaboration with pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and other departments, we provide diagnosis and counseling for genetic disorders. In the case of prenatal diagnosis and pre-onset diagnosis, which require special ethical considerations, decisions are made after careful discussions at conferences attended by doctors and paramedical staff. Based on these achievements, our university is certified as a training facility for clinical genetic specialists. We are developing new genetic diagnostic methods by incorporating cutting-edge technologies from domestic and overseas laboratories.

Education – Nurturing the Power of the Future

We are teaching cardiovascular medicine and human genetics to our medical students. In our human genetics class, we have designed the curriculum so that students can acquire skills applicable to basic genetics as well as to the rapidly developing field of genetic medicine. For graduate students, we provide indispensable knowledge in genetic analysis, aiming to elucidate the genetic factors of various diseases.
