July 4
The then-Minister of Home Affairs, Daisuke Akita, announced a plan to establish a new medical school.
1971
January 21
A founding committee was organized to establish a medical school.
May 14
The name of the school, Jichi Medical School, was officially decided and its location in Minamikawachi-machi, Kawachi County, Tochigi Prefecture was decided.
1972
February 5
The establishment of Jichi Medical School, an Education Corporation, was approved.

The opening of Jichi Medical Hospital was authorized.

The establishment of Jichi Senior Nursing School was approved.
April 13
An opening ceremony was held for Jichi Medical Hospital.
1977
March 22
The Jichi Senior Nursing School was renamed Jichi Nursing School.
1978
March 24
The establishment of a Doctoral Program in Medicine at the Graduate School was approved.
1980

The establishment of a three-year program at Jichi Nursing School was approved.

1984 The establishment of an Obstetrics Course at Jichi Nursing School was approved.
1986

The establishment of a Nursing College at Jichi Medical School was approved.

An opening ceremony was held for the Nursing College.

The opening of the Omiya Medical Center was authorized.

An opening ceremony was held for the Omiya Medical Center.

The establishment of the Department of Obstetrics at the Nursing College was approved.
2001

The establishment of a School of Nursing at Jichi Medical School was approved.
2002
December 19
The establishment of Master’s Program in Medicine at the Graduate School was approved.
2005
December 5
The establishment of a Master’s Program in Nursing at Graduate School was approved.
2006
April 1
Jichi Medical School was renamed Jichi Medical University in English.
September 19
An opening ceremony was held for Jichi Children’s Medical Center Tochigi.
2007
July 1
Jichi Medical School Omiya Medical Center was renamed Jichi Medical University Saitama Medical Center.
2011
December 21
A change in the Nursing Program at the Graduate School was approved (Doctoral Program).
(The Master’s Program was changed to the Doctoral Program, which was then divided into a master’s program and a doctoral program)
